AC Motors is a general category that
covers a number of different designs but that ALL must use AC power to operate,
as compared to DC power.
- Single Phase Motors
- Two Phase Motors - This category isn't worth making an individual page on.
This is a VERY old standard and suffice to say, many of you reading this
page, will have NEVER seen or possibly even heard of a Two Phase Motor. Just an
old way of doing something that was improved greatly by the Three Phase
electrical distribution system and was done away with in the process.
- Three Phase Motors
These motors are the work horses of the industrial and commercial markets. In
excess of 70% of the power used in industrial plants in the United States, is
consumed by AC Motors.
Think about your home and how many motors there are
around you. I'll bet that 99.9% of them are AC Motors. Think about it.... Air
Conditioners, Humidifiers, De-Humidifiers, Refrigerators, Freezers, Bathroom
Exhaust Fans, Attic Exhaust Fans, Ceiling Paddle Fans, Washers, Dryers,
Dishwashers, Garbage Disposals, Food Processors, Mixers, Water Well Pumps,
Vacuum Cleaners, Floor Scrubbers, Sewing Machines, Electric Razors, Hair
Trimmers, Hair Dryers, Treadmills, etc., etc.
